Subject: Hurricane Katrina Recovery – Update #95
Posted: June 19, 2009
We have recently been informed
that the proposals for permanent repairs and hazard
mitigation for the Allied Health/Nursing Building,
the Student Residence Hall and the
Resource Center have successfully
passed through the local FEMA review queues. Each proposal has been packaged and forwarded
to Washington, DC
for review by the Million Dollar Queue. We remain cautiously optimistic that all
three of the proposals will be recommended for
funding by
Washington
and that the funds will be obligated and made
available in the near future. Work on the bid documents for the three
projects is also nearing completion. Ideally, the funds will be available when the
bid documents are completed and the three projects
can be rapidly put out for bid by the Office of
Facility Planning and Control.
The Design/Development
documents for the permanent repairs and hazard
mitigation for the Central Utility Plant on the
downtown campus and for the Roman St. Garage have
been completed by the architects and forwarded to
FEMA for their review. Documents at the Design/Development stage are
normally used to prepare the PW versions and the
formal Hazard Mitigation Proposal(s). We expect that FEMA will have additional
questions of the architects on both projects. Any meetings that are required will be
coordinated as quickly as possible to insure that no
unnecessary delays occur in preparing PW versions
and hazard mitigation proposals for these two
structures.
The contract to re-roof the
Allied Health/Nursing Building is scheduled to be
completed by the end of June. The contractor installed aluminum flashing
along the MEB side of the roof.
They
completed installing the white cap sheet.
Workers removed and replaced the existing roof on
the front entry way to the building and on the 4th
Floor roof along Gravier Street. Galvanized furring (hatch channel) has been
installed on the parapet wall above the loading dock
area and above Perdido St., Roman St. and Bolivar St. Workers
installed walk pads near the elevator penthouse and Perdido Street.
Work on the project to re-roof
the Resource Center
is schedule to begin immediately after the July 4th
holidays. The contract has been executed and the
pre-construction conference was held. One of the first steps in the project will be
to install a temporary elevator on the exterior of
the building that will carry men and materials to
the roof without impacting the interior of the
building.
The renovations to the MEB
Pharmacology lab are substantially complete. Workers waxed the floors in the
administration and lab. The contractor successfully tested the fire
alarm and passed the Fire Marshall inspection. The contractor has been provided a punch list
and they are addressing the outstanding issues.
The coffee kiosk in the
Resource Center Library Commons passed the health
inspection. The contractor completed the installation of
the sheetrock in the stairwell and installed two
access panels in the restroom closet. LSUHSC electricians installed light fixtures
in the coffee kiosk.
A variety of tasks are being
completed at 1542 Tulane Ave. in preparation for
reoccupying the 1st and 2nd Floors. The electrical contractor installed the new
up-lights and lighted bollards along Tulane Ave. and
installed a new fixture above the driveway entrance
to the parking garage.
The sink and
ice machine for the 2nd Floor lounge was connected. Workers installed and connected the AHU in
Suite
123. The terrazzo contractor applied the final
polish on the 1st and 2nd Floors. Additional network data drops have been
installed in 2nd Floor offices. Carpet was installed in offices along the
center corridor on the 2nd Floor and in the 1st
Floor auditorium. Facility Services repaired the ceiling in
Rooms 228, 236, 240A, and 241.
The permanent repair and
mitigation project at the Lions/LSU Clinic Building
is nearing completion. The mechanical contractor finished piping the
fuel lines to the new fuel tank. The electrical contractor removed underground
wires from the old generator room and fire pump room
and tested the 660 gallon fuel tank on the 1st
Floor.
They removed the old underground wires between the
switchgear and the generator and sealed the conduit. Stryker continued their final equipment
testing in the simulation labs. The lightning protection rods for the roof
mounted exhaust fans have been repaired. The 1st Floor security desk is in place and
additional furniture was delivered to the 6th Floor
offices.
Work on the renovations to the
2nd Floor lobby in the MEB continues. The contractor installed metal trim for the
wood wall panels by the door to the right of Lecture
Hall A.
New wall panels were installed on the right side of
Lecture Hall A and on the left side of Lecture Hall
B. They
installed metal trim and wood panels on the
television monitor wall. The contractor installed four exit lights,
installed two thermostats, finished installing
outlets on the walls with wood panels and finished
installing sconce lights by the metal panels. The rough in for the fire alarm system
components has been completed.
The contractor poured self
leveling concrete on the floor in the main room of
MDL #3.
Ceiling grid has been installed in the main room and
in Rooms 4108A and 4201A. Crews patched and prepped floor for tile
installation and installed VCT in the MDL. The sprinkler heads in the main MDL room were
relocated and the valves for air, gas, and vacuum
were installed. Workers
installed light fixtures in the main MDL room.
The project to replace the MEB
air handling units has multiple phases. The contractor completed insulating the
chilled water piping, the heating hot water piping,
and installing building automation controls for AHU
6D and 7D. Crews started and balanced AHU 6D and 7D. Facility Services have removed temporary
units from Quadrant D and installed the temporary
units in Quadrant C of the 6th and 7th Floors while
preparations have begun for the removal and
replacement of the next pair of AHUs.
The renovations to the Dental School
auditoriums are proceeding. The contractor installed additional
acoustical panels on the south, east and west walls
of Auditorium B. They completed additional framing along the
south and east walls of Auditorium B and installed
the remaining acoustical panels in Auditorium B. The custom baseboard for Auditorium A has
been installed and stained.
The A/V
contractor installed the projection screen framing
in both auditoriums and mounted the projector in
Auditorium A. They installed components for the A/V racks
in Room 4202B and pulled antenna wiring for both
auditoriums. Wiring for the lecterns in both auditoriums
was pulled.
The electrical contractor
installed wall-mounted lights along the walls of
Auditorium B. They installed and wired the controller, the
disconnects, and the emergency shut-off for the
Liebert units. The final connections for the dimmer controls
were made and the controls were programmed in both
auditoriums. Electricians re-wired fire alarm device
connections for the fire alarm speaker/strobe
devices and the fire alarm system was successfully
tested. The last exit sign was installed in
Auditorium B. The mechanical contractor set the 2nd Liebert
unit and connected the chilled water piping. Workers wired final connections of the AHU
sensors to the controller in the AHU room and they
performed the initial start-up of the Liebert units
in Room 4202B. They insulated additional HVAC plumbing.
The parking lot contractor
completed paving the Moss Street
entrance driveway and the other asphalt repairs
around the Dental School
campus. Concrete driveway aprons were
completed at the Army Parkway, Moss Street, Navy Parkway and the Clinic Building
service entrance. Workers marked the newly
paved lot surfaces and set concrete wheel stops for
Parking Lots 2 and 6. Facility Services replaced wheel stops and
conducted maintenance and repairs to the student
