Subject: Hurricane Katrina Recovery – Update #128
Posted: October 8, 2010

FEMA has prepared versions to the three PWs for permanent repairs to the Dental School Clinic Building, the Administration Building and the Power Plant for the waterproofing of the exteriors of the buildings.  Winds from Hurricane Katrina significantly damaged the waterproofing system that seals the joints between the exterior panels.  The design team is completing the construction documents for the waterproofing project and the PW versions are going through the FEMA review queues pending funding.  We anticipate being able to solicit bids for the work within the next month or so.

The pre-construction conference for the project for the permanent repairs and mitigation at the Clinic Education Building is scheduled for October 21st.  This meeting will allow the contractor, the Office of Facility Planning and Control and LSUHSC to begin to establish the detailed schedules and sequence of work that will be finalized in the next few months.

The contractor installed the steel supports for the storefront systems at the Allied Health/Nursing Building and crews made more fittings and ran additional heating hot water lines on the 2nd Floor.  Workers are installing the raised platforms for the 1st Floor air handling units. Plumbing connections are being made in the 1st Floor Men’s restroom.  The contractor prepared for the installation of stucco on the 1st Floor walls.  Stucco was applied in Room 147 and three coats of stucco were applied to the offices and stairwells along Bolivar Street.

The electrical contractor energized the new switchgear in the Resource Center. The new switchgear is now providing power to Riser A (the Tulane Ave side of the building) and Riser ACD (the air conditioning and water pumps).  Door frames were installed in Rooms 122A and 125.  Elevator pit parts were removed from the freight elevator and the contractor removed the elevator shaft wall.

The contractor set the generator in place on the 2nd Floor of the elevated structure at the Student Residence Hall.  They set transformers and 4 of the 6 disconnect boxes on the steel platform on the roof of the enclosure.  The electrical contractor continued installing conduits on the 2nd Floor of the elevated enclosure.  Workers primed the walls of the storage room on the 1st Floor, C-Tower, the exterior wall of the Laundry Room in the 1st Floor, A Tower and the exterior wall of the Maintenance Room (Room 11) on the 1st Floor, A Tower and pressure washed the storage room on the 1st Floor, A-Tower.
