The project to waterproof the exteriors of the three main buildings on the Dental School campus will be getting underway within the next few weeks. The contract with the successful bidder has been signed and the formal Notice To Proceed has been issued. The contractor has been instructed to begin work not later than February 28, 2011 and has 180 days to complete the work. The pre-construction conference has been set for February 18, 2011.

The State’s Office of Facility Planning and Control is prepared to advertise the contract to make permanent repairs to the Roman St. Garage. The key part of this project will be to elevate critical mechanical and electrical elements of the passenger elevators to an upper floor; protecting them from damage in a future flooding event. The project will be scheduled to be out for bid for 30 days and if the bid and contracting processes proceed normally, we would expect work on this contract to begin in the late spring or early summer.

Work continues on the permanent repairs and mitigation at the Allied Health/Nursing Building. The storefront framing for the birthing labs was installed and the sheetrock is being hung. The contractor is roughing in the medical gasses for the birthing labs. Structural steel for the entryway storefront on the 2nd Floor was erected and the storefront that will form the new entryway into the building from the elevated walkway was installed. Structural steel for the new walkway window looking onto Gravier Street has also been installed.

Wire was pulled to the new elevated emergency life/safety generator that serves the Allied Health/Nursing Building. The supply air ductwork was installed on the 2nd Floor near the two auditoriums and the contractor installed oval ductwork into the AHU on the 2nd Floor. Crews are fabricating the chilled water lines for the 2nd Floor AHU near the existing auditoriums and they ran heating hot water and chilled water pipe to the VAVs on the 1st Floor. Conduit is being run for the fire alarms on the 2nd Floor and the door frame for the freight elevator was installed.

The contractor finished correcting items on the stucco punch list and workers primed and painted several of the 1st Floor offices in the Allied Health/Nursing Building. The painters are now working in all four stairwells. The contractor installed the ceramic wall tiles in the 1st Floor restroom near Gravier Street and in the restroom near the loading dock and exhaust fans were installed in both of the 1st Floor restrooms.

Crews pulled wires from the new transformer to the 3rd Floor electrical panel for the apartment ranges in Tower A of the Residence Hall. The contractor pulled wires from the 1st Floor electrical closet to the 3rd Floor electrical panel for the stoves in Tower B. Wiring was pulled from the 1st Floor electrical closet to the new 3rd Floor electrical panel for the stoves in Tower C. The stoves in all three Towers are now energized through new switchgear. The contractor finished pulling electrical feeders for the elevators and the building elevators are now energized through the new switchgear.

The fire pump was set in place on the 2nd Floor of the elevated structure behind the Residence Hall. Crews finished tying in the domestic water line for the new pump and domestic water has been restored to the building. Workers are installing the main fire sprinkler line on the 1st Floor. The contractor began caulking the exterior wall of the new building. They painted the walls of the electrical and generator rooms in the elevated structure. The soffit along the balcony was plastered and workers painted the laundry room in Tower A. The floors of the storage room and the laundry room in Tower A have been sandblasted.

The new desk and the carpet were installed in the Resource Center bookstore. The electrical receptacles for the desk were installed. The new walls in the bookstore were painted and the ceiling was installed. Two metal beams and the cross beams for the mezzanine deck were installed in the pump room. Steel decking was installed on the 1st section of the mezzanine.

The contractor transferred the power for the emergency lighting in the Resource Center Library to the new switchgear. They also transferred the power for the emergency lighting on the 7th and 8th Floors to the new switchgear. Conduit was run in Room 211 for the 7th and 8th Floor AHUs. The contractor is priming the new stainless steel doorframes on the 1st Floor and abandoned wiring was removed from the 1st Floor.

The contractor working at the Clinical Education Building finished removing existing heating hot water pipes from the basement. They are installing the 10 inch supply heating hot water pipe and chilled water piping in the basement. Crews removed walls in the old cafeteria area in the basement and removed the walls in the elevator pits # 4, 7, and 8. The freight elevator shaft wall in the basement was also demolished. The contractor removed elevator pit parts from elevators # 4, 7, and 8.

Conduit was installed in Rooms 209, 224C and 309 of the CEB. Electrical junction boxes were installed in Room 209 and in the 3rd Floor mechanical room located on the back side of the building. Workers continue installing electrical conduits on the 3rd Floor to allow for the relocation of panel 3LE. The concrete loading dock at the rear of the building was removed and the excavation is underway. The concrete pad for the salt water tank in the loading dock area was demolished. The contractor responsible for constructing the covered walkway that connects the CEB to the District Energy Garage has begun the installation of the corrugated metal roof decking over the walkway.

The upgrades to the CSRB exhaust system are continuing. The contractor finished installing the ceiling supports and the metal lathe on the ceiling of the 1st Floor and three coats of plaster were applied to the ceiling of the 1st Floor. Floor penetrations were cut in Rooms 630A and 533A. The contractor installed electrical conduit in Room 139B and on the 7th Floor near the mechanical room.

At the Dental School, the contractor ran chilled water lines for the new AHU above the Gross Anatomy lab and for the unit above Oral Pathology. They pressure tested the chilled water lines for the AHU above Oral Pathology. The piping for the floor drain near the AHUs above the Gross Anatomy lab and Oral Pathology was installed and connected. Workers are fabricating the heating hot water lines for the VAV boxes and the heating hot water and chilled water risers. Supply ductwork for the AHU above Oral Pathology was installed. The lighting contractor replaced 39 light fixtures in locker rooms on the 7th Floor and an additional 113 light fixtures throughout the 7th Floor of the Clinic Building.

Twelve new catch basins have been installed in the Student Athletic Fields located at the Dental School campus. The contractor excavated trenches for storm drain pipe to connect the catch basins, installed the drain pipe and backfilled the trenches. They cut the sidewalk and trenched in four locations to connect the new catch basins to the city storm sewer system outside the fence.
