Construction of the Human Development Center is getting underway.  This new 4 story, 126,000 sq. ft. structure will provide a long awaited, permanent home for the critical programs operated by the School of Allied Health Professions that serve the developmentally-disabled population of the State.   The contract includes a 730 calendar day schedule for completing the new building.  Equipment has been mobilized and delivered to the site.  The contractor removed 47 of the piles that had been driven immediately prior to Hurricane Katrina.

The contractor responsible for making permanent repairs to the Clinical Education Building pressure tested steam pipes and chilled water pipes in the basement of the building.  Their crews continued installing electrical conduit on the 2nd & 3rd levels of the MEP building and storm drain pipe on the 3rd level of the building.  Exterior limestone panels have been installed to cover the window of Room 336.

The project to upgrade the building exhaust system at the CSRB is progressing.  The contractor installed the fan motor for fan EF-2C and removed the temporary power feed for the exhaust fans.  The exhaust fan controls and control wiring for fan systems 1, 2, 3, 4, and 10 were installed.   Plumbing was rerouted in the 2nd Floor corridor and the temporary exhaust ductwork for phase 2B has been installed.  The old exhaust ductwork was removed from the areas that are included in phase 2B.

The contractor responsible for replacing the air handling units in the Dental School Clinic and Administration buildings removed the ceiling grid from the 2nd Floor clinic areas in the Clinic Building.  The ductwork and insulation was removed from the mechanical room that houses unit 2B.  The contractor removed unit 2B and all of the ductwork that served the old unit.  Crews are now installing the ductwork, VAVs and heating hot water lines for unit 2B.  The concrete pad for the new unit was poured and the pan for the unit was welded.

The contractor finished installing air handling unit 4A in the Clinic Building.  The heating hot water and chilled water lines for unit 4A have been installed and the door frame was installed in the mechanical room that houses the unit.  The ductwork and heating hot water lines for unit 4B are being insulated.  The 4th Floor ceiling grid and the ceiling in the 4th Floor Men’s restroom is being installed.

Workers continued installing ceiling grid and light fixtures on the 6th Floor of the Clinic Building.  56 light fixtures have been installed.  The heating hot water lines for unit 6B have been insulated and the installation of unit 6B has been completed.  The ceilings in the 7th Floor elevator lobby and Men’s restroom have been installed.

The contractor continued installing ductwork and VAVs for unit L2B in the Administration Building.  Workers continued installing the ductwork transitions for unit L2B and the fire dampers for L2B and L3B.    The heating hot water lines, the chilled water lines and the control wire for units L2B and L3B are being installed. The contractor started insulating the chilled water and heating hot water lines for the units.  New ceiling light fixtures are being installed in the Library offices and thirty-nine (39) lights were replaced in Auditorium C.  The new CMU wall has been erected in the Library workroom.

The project to complete permanent repairs and mitigation measures at the Resource Center was interrupted by the default of the contractor.  At that time, the building heating system was not fully functional in its new configuration.  At the urging of the Office of Facility Planning and Control, the bonding company has brought in a contractor to restore heating to the building.  The contractor installed control devices in the heating water piping and pressurized the system.  They tested the rotation of the heating water pumps and installed the controls for the heating hot water pumps.
