November Faculty Publications

A new selection of articles has been added to the Faculty Publications display in the Isché Library. These eight articles, as well as all the articles in LSU Health Digital Scholar, are authored by at least one member of our research community here at LSUHSC-New Orleans. Each month the Library is proud to present copies of eight of these publications in a rotating display of 16. Check out the display below:

LSUHSC Digital Scholar is an institutional repository and is a service of the LSU Health Science Center Libraries. Research and scholarly output included here has been selected and deposited by the Libraries, as well as individual university departments and centers on campus.

Publications cited in LSU Health Digital Scholar are harvested from a variety of sources, such as PubMed, SCOPUS, and CINAHL, to name a few. In addition to articles, they include books, book chapters, papers, editorials, letters to the editor, and meeting abstracts, all authored by at least one member of the LSUHSC-NO community. You can access LSU Health Digital Scholar at https://digitalscholar.lsuhsc.edu/.

If you have an article that you would like us to highlight or if you have any questions regarding the display or the database, you can contact our Librarians at reference@lsuhsc.edu

Small changes to logging into Library resources

November 13, 2024: We’ve made a couple of changes in the background systems that help you log into Library resources, and you may see some small changes here and there.

If you are on campus using a wired workstation or connected to the LSUHSC-Secure wireless network, you may be asked to enter your full LSUHSC-NO email address when you see this screen:

Screenshot of email login prompt

After you’ve entered your entire LSUHSC-NO email account or chosen your LSUHSC-NO account you’ve previously used, you may see this box, where you will just need to enter your username (the bit before the @lsuhsc.edu) and your current password:

Screenshot of username and password login prompt

When off campus, you will notice you may be asked to complete the Multifactor Authentication (MFA), where you will need to enter a two-digit number in your Microsoft Authenticator app or confirm via a phone call that you are trying to log in:

If you’ve logged in elsewhere in your session, such as to access the Office 365 Outlook webmail, you may not be asked to provide any of the above as your previously-entered credentials will transfer to the systems that help with logging into Library resources.

Also, if you log in directly to sites using the Library’s OpenAthens setup, you will see the same prompts as above.

If you do not have Multifactor Authentication set up, you will see a message similar to this and will be unable to proceed:

If you see this screen, you will need to set up Multifactor Authentication to continue to log in to Library resources. You can do so by referring to the “Enroll in MFA” section on this page: https://www.lsuhsc.edu/admin/it/security/mfa/microsoft-mfa.aspx. If you need assistance with this, please contact the Help Desk or your school’s computer supporters.

If you have any questions about this or need any other assistance with Library resources, please contact us.

Isché Library Welcomes Our Newest Librarian!

We are happy to introduce our newest librarian, Matthew Folse, MLIS to our team as our Scholarly Communication Librarian. Matthew has a BA in History from the University of New Orleans, and received his MLIS from Louisiana State University. He can be contacted at mfols3@lsuhsc.edu or 504-568-6106

The second class is How LSUHSC-NO Libraries Can Support Publishing on Wednesday, November 13th at noon. This class is a part of our Open Access month programming. You can join us at Room 405 in the Isché Library, or via Zoom.

The third class is Introduction to CINAHL on Wednesday, November 20th at noon. This class is a reschedule from the cancelled class in September. You can join us at Room 405 in the Isché Library, or via Zoom.

Equipment storage on the 5th Floor throughout November

October 28, 2024: For the next four weeks or so, there will be periodic moving and storage of furniture and equipment on the 5th Floor on the Prieur side. This is to assist with the carpet replacement on the 6th Floor of the Resource Center.

It may be noisy on days when the items are being moved between the floors.

Please do not take or move any of the items that are being stored, especially the chairs. These are from staff offices on the 6th Floor, and will be needed when the carpet installation is done in each area.

Off campus login woes? Try this!

October 25, 2024

Have you ever seen this screen when trying to log into Library resources when off campus?

Screenshot of error message on login screen

You know you’re typing in your full LSUHSC-NO email address and are entering your correct current password. However, no matter how many times you try nor what browser you use, you just can’t log in.

If you run into this situation, try logging into the Microsoft Portal at https://portal.microsoft.com. When you enter your email and password there you will be asked to complete the Multifactor Authentication (MFA) step. After you’ve successfully logged into the Microsoft Portal, you can try accessing the Library resource you were attempting to get to initially.

We’ve found that sometimes you need to get the MFA to activate in order to have logging into Library resources be successful. The links to Library resources do not trigger the MFA step, so you may get caught in a loop where you can’t log in.

If you have any questions or need any assistance with Library resources, please contact us.

Update: Library catalog problems

UPDATE, Thursday, October 24, 2024: All problems with the Library catalog, the system the staff uses, and the WebBridge link resolver have been fixed. If you encounter any issues, please contact us.

Wednesday, October 23, 2024: We are experiencing extreme slowness and non responsiveness from the Library catalog. It is also making it difficult to check out and renew items in the Library.

This issue is also affecting any traffic that is going to our local WebBridge link resolver; the majority of link resolver traffic is handled by LibKey, so you may not see any problems when accessing articles.

We will update when we have more information about this issue.

The Isché Library Now Offers 3D Printing!

We are excited to announce that we offer 3D printing at the Ichsé Library! This service is ran with assistance with the LSUHSC-NO chapter of SLING Health. To find out more information on our 3D printer service, and find the policies for 3D printer use please go to lsuhsc.edu/library/information/3dprinting.aspx, or to our LibGuide on 3D Printing to find more information and resources on the medical application of 3D printing.

UPDATE: Problems accessing all Wiley resources via Library links

UPDATE Wednesday, October 23, 2024: All Library links to Wiley content appear to be working as expected this morning. However, other institutions report this problem has been intermittent for the past couple of days, so you may run into issues unexpectedly. If you need assistance with this or any other Library resources, contact us.

Tuesday, October 22, 2024: We are currently experiencing issues with accessing all subscribed content on Wiley from a Library link. This affects all links from our Catalog, the E-Journals and E-Books A to Z List, our link resolver, and LibKey products. We are working on resolving the problem and will update when we have more information.

Until the problem is resolved, please use this link to access any Wiley content: https://go.openathens.net/redirector/lsuhsc.edu?url=https%3A%2F%2Fonlinelibrary.wiley.com%2F.

If you need assistance getting an article or an ebook, please contact us.
