LGBT Symposium – April 10th

LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine will present LGBT Health Care Symposium: Insight on Current Affairs and the Future of LGBT Health Care on Monday, April 10, 2017, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. on campus at the Medical Education Building, 1901 Perdido Street, in Lecture Room A (first floor). Parking will be available in Student Lot #2, located on Perdido Street between South Prieur and Bolivar streets. The event is free and open to the public.
The event is sponsored by ETHIKOS and LGBT+Allies Organization for the Cultural Understanding in the Health Sciences (LOCUS), the ethics and LGBT student interest groups at LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine.

New NLM/NIH Display at the Ische Library

The Isché Library is pleased to host the National Library of Medicine/National Institutes of Health display: Pictures of Nursing: the Zwerdling Postcard Collection, which explores the relationship of nursing to events in 20th-century life and how nursing was perceived.  For more information on the exhibit, visit the NLM exhibition page.

The exhibit will be in the Library Commons from Monday, March 24th through Friday April 21st.

The Libraries will have shortened hours surrounding Carnival.

  • Friday, February 24th both the Dental and Isché Libraries close at 5 pm.
  • Saturday, February 25th the Isché Library will be open regular hours from 9:30 am to 6 pm & the Dental Library will be closed.
  • Sunday, February 26th the Dental Library will be open regular hours from 11:30 am to 8 pm & the Isché Library will be open 12 noon to 8:30 pm.
  • Monday, February 27th both Libraries will be open 8 am to 5 pm.
  • Tuesday, February 28th both Libraries will be closed for Mardi Gras.
  • Wednesday, March 1st the Dental Library will be open 8 am to 5 pm. The Isché Library will be open regular hours 8 am to 12 midnight.
  • Thursday, March 2nd the Dental Library will be open 8 am to 5 pm. The Isché Library will be open regular hours 8 am to 12 midnight.

CDC Offers Valentine’s Advice

The Centers for Disease Control have issued some Tips for a Healthy Valentine’s. The article includes hints about not overeating, avoiding food-borne illnesses, and other not very romantic reminders.

 

Libraries Closed on MLK Jr Day

Both the Dental and Isché Libraries will be closed in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr Day on Monday, January 16th. The Libraries will be open their regular hours over the weekend.

Winter Break Hours

Both the Dental & Isché Libraries will begin Winter Break hours on Monday, December 19th. The Dental Library will be open from 8am to 5pm and the Isché Library will be open 8am to 6pm.

Both Libraries will closed from Friday, December 23rd through Monday, January 2nd. Both Libraries will reopen on Tuesday, January 3rd at 8am and resume normal hours.

Surgeon General’s Report on Addiction

On November 29th, the US Surgeon General‘s Office released the office’s first ever comprehensive report on addiction. The full report, Facing Addiction in America: the Surgeon General’s Report on Alcohol, Drugs, and Health, is over 400 pages long. There is an Executive Summary which is 36 pages in length.

CDC: VetoViolence

The Centers for Disease Control has launched a new resource, VetoViolence. This website offers “free, online, interactive, and engaging violence prevention tools, trainings, and resources based on the best available evidence and research. The tools, trainings, and resources provide practical knowledge and skills to assist and enhance the work of violence prevention practitioners.” The aim of the website is to create safer communities for everyone.

Both the Isché and Dental Libraries will be closed Thursday through Saturday, November 24th – 26th in celebration of the Thanksgiving holiday. Both Libraries will close early on Wednesday, November 23rd; the Dental Library will close at 5pm and the Isché Library will close at 6pm.

The Libraries will reopen on Sunday, November 27th at their normal times, 11:30am at Dental and 12 noon at Isché.

For Users of Ovid MEDLINE:

The Library has received the following email from Ovid Support:

On October 12th the U.S. National Library of Medicine requested that Ovid temporarily discontinue MEDLINE/PubMed updates due to technical difficulties. The NLM has also requested that we delete records from October 6th and October 7th. This will mean that the last update for Ovid’s MEDLINE feed will be dated October 3rd. The banners are currently being updated to reflect the most recent data loaded into Ovid MEDLINE.

This request will not affect the EPub Ahead of Print feed. We will notify you as soon as we know when updates will become live again.

For the most up to date database, please use PubMed.
