RefWorks

RefWorks is currently developing a new and improved version of itself referred to simply as the new RefWorks. At this time, the new RefWorks does not have all of the same functionality as the old RefWorks, which is now referred to as legacy RefWorks. As such, we will not be migrating our subscription to the new RefWorks until all of the kinks have been straightened out. If you are prompted with a choice between the legacy version (orange) and the new version (blue), please select the legacy version (orange).

We will let you know when the new version is ready for prime time. As always, if you need assistance, please feel free to contact us.

Tips for iPads and LSUHSC networks

If you’re new to campus or have a new iPad, here are a few tips to help you get connected to the LSUHSC networks.

To access the wireless network while on campus:

• Go to Settings->Wi-Fi; turn the Wi-Fi connection on
• Choose the network LSUHSC-Secure
• Enter your LSUHSC user i.d. and password and tap “Join”
• You will then be asked to accept the “eis-rcbnps3.master…” certificate
• Success! You’re now logged onto the LSUHSC wireless network

For those who would like to set up Citrix on their iPad, we have put together a walkthrough to help you with this process.

If you would like to set up your LSUHSC e-mail for use through the Mail app, more information can be found on this page. However, if you would like to receive your LSUHSC mail on your iPad, you will have to set up a passcode lock for your device if you have not already done so.

Finding resources during INNOPAC maintenance

While the Library’s INNOPAC system is offline for maintenance, a number of functions are affected. During this outage the catalog, off-campus access, and link resolver will be unavailable. However, here are a few ways to get the resources you need during this downtime:

• All print books and journals will be available for checkout; although we will be unable to look up holdings and call numbers, Library staff will assist you in finding the materials you need from anything that is on reserve or in the stacks.

• All online resources will be available on campus only; when viewing the available databases be sure to click the “On Campus” link:

• If you need an ebook you can use the eBooks LibGuide to find the on-campus links to the electronic books available from various publishers.

• Although it is also an option for ebooks, the E-Books & E-Journals A to Z List will allow access to the online version of the majority of journals available from the Library.

We hope the outage will not last very long, but Library staff will be ready to answer any questions you have regarding resources while this necessary maintenance is completed. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

3D Printing at Dental Library on Wednesdays and Fridays Only

The Dental Library has now designated two weekdays for 3D printing jobs: Wednesday and Friday.

We understand that the noise generated by the 3D printer can be distracting. At the same time, we want this technology to be openly available and conveniently usable for all students and faculty. As a compromise, we will restrict 3D printing to Wednesdays and Fridays so everyone will be guaranteed quality time in the library.

It should be noted that we may not always have 3D print projects going on the designated days; likewise, we may have to start a priority project on an off day. So please bear with us as we try to provide an accessible educational space for everyone to study, learn, and discover.

Ische Library – Reference Hours Change

The Isché Library Reference Librarians will be available for patron assistance from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday only, starting on Monday, March 28th. With the current staffing level in that area, we are no longer able to cover the Reference Desk until 8 pm.

The Libraries can now offer mobile services (chat, email, etc) from the Ask-a-Librarian app; it is available from Amazon, Google Play and iTunes.

Our services can be discovered in 2 ways:
1. Either search for nearby libraries; we are currently the only ones using this service in Louisiana. (However there is a known bug with users who have Android 6/Marshmallow, so uncheck the location box if this is your phone/tablet.)
2. Or search for LSU.
