Elevated Walkway Closure

According to facilities, access to the Resource Center Building (and the Library Commons) will be via the 1st floor only (and with an LSUHSC ID) while the Isché Library is closed for the 4th of July Holiday.

Here’s the full-text of their message:

From 6:00 PM Thursday, July 3rd, to 6:30 AM Monday, July 7th, the elevated walkway from the S. Roman St. Parking Garage to the Walk-To-Wellness (ramp) will be closed for resurfacing.  Consequently, there will not be any access to any Downtown Campus buildings via the garage 3rd floor and walkway during this closure.

During this time, access to the Medical Education Building (MEB), Allied Health/Nursing Building (AHNB), Resource Center Building (RCB) and Lions/LSU Clinics Building (LEC) will be through the 1st floor entrance of each building.  Access to the CSRB will be through the loading dock or through the connecting bridge on the fourth & fifth floors of the LEC.  In the S. Roman St. Garage, all pedestrian traffic will be routed to the 1st floor.  Access along the Walk-To-Wellness and between the AHNB, CSRB, LEC, MEB, and the Walk-To-Wellness will not be affected.

The walkway and 3rd floor garage elevator lobby will reopen at 6:30 AM on Monday, July 7th.

Rowena Spencer, 1922-2014

LSUHSC Portrait – probably mid 1950s to mid 1960s.

Rowena Spencer passed away at age 91 on Tuesday, May 13th. She will be remembered by generations of New Orleanians for her surgical skills, her commitment to various causes, her eccentricities, and most of all her dedication to the young patients she saved. She was a faculty member in the Department of Surgery (and later Pediatrics) from 1952 until about 1969.

Funding Databases

Thanks to other groups on campus, the Libraries have created pages for 2 funding sources available to all LSUHSC faculty, staff and students.

Grant Forward is the newly revised IRIS database and is provided by the LSUHSC New Orleans Office of Research Services.

SciVal Funding allows searching in the US and abroad and is provided by the Stanley S. Scott Cancer Center Office of Grants and Development.

Both databases are available on and off campus with the Libraries’ WAM access.

uTip: Text Emergency Alert System

This week, LSU Health Sciences Center introduced an emergency reporting service that will allow faculty, staff, and students to send text messages to University Police in order to facilitate the reporting of crime, to help prevent crime, and to allow police faster and more accurate information.

Subscription and registration with campus emergency alerts is not necessary. Users can simply send a message to 50911 with a text beginning “LSUHSC” in order to notify University Police of emergencies, crimes, and suspicious activities or persons in the area. Normal text message rates assigned by cell phone providers will apply.

Users may also contact University Police with non-emergency information at 568-8270 or via online message at http://www.is.lsuhsc.edu/police/response.htm.

RCB Domestic Water Outage – Tuesday February 18th

There will be a temporary domestic water outage on Tuesday February 18th from 7am to 9am in the Resources Center Building. During this time, please do not attempt to use any water fountains, faucets, toilets or urinals.?áThis outage is necessary for the New Orleans Sewerage & Water Board to repair a fire hydrant leak in front of the building on Bolivar Street.

*EDIT* 3 pm 2/18/14 – the expected outage did not happen this morning; the outage will now begin at 4 pm.
