Unlimited Users on All Access Products!

The Libraries are happy to announce that all Access products: AccessMedicine, AccessEmergencyMedicine, AccessNeurology and AccessSurgery. Previously we had a limited number of seats to some of these products which prevented more than a few users at once. The access databases provide books (including core textbooks), journals, testing, multimedia, case studies, patient education and study tools. They are also integrated with AccessMedicine – Case Files Collection, with cases in both basic sciences and clinical rotations.

Library’s journals now available through Read by QxMD

We have added full support of Read by QxMD so you will now be able to link directly from article abstracts to the full-text of the article if the Library has a subscription.

You can access Read by QxMD on your computer by going to https://www.readbyqxmd.com/. Mobile apps are available through the appropriate Android and Apple app stores.

You will need to create an account in order to link to our journals. When you are setting up your account, be sure to choose “Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans” as your home institution. You can then choose whether you would like to be prompted to log in each time you need to retrieve an article, or to have your credentials automatically sent. If you choose the automatic login option, you will need to enter your Library barcode and PIN.

AccessNeurology now available!

We are pleased to announce that AccessNeurology is now available as part of our McGraw-Hill AccessMedicine suite of online resources.  AccessNeurology, like the other AccessMedicine databases, includes online books, videos, drug information, cases, study guides, and tools for educators.  Topics cover the entire spectrum of neurology from the basics to specialty-specific content from authoritative experts in the field. Visual DX Cancelled

The School of Medicine Technology Committee has chosen not to renew Visual DX for the coming fiscal year. They were not seeing enough interest to continue the subscription. The Libraries provided access to the website but did not contribute financially to this product.

Link resolver currently unavailable in Google Scholar

The WebBridge LR link resolver is not available in Google Scholar at this time. We have reported the issue and will update when we have more information.

STAT!Ref Dental ebook Collection Cancelled

We are cancelling the STAT!Ref dental ebook collection due to the very high cost and lack of funds.  This collection will no longer be available in STAT!Ref as of July 1st.  We are currently working on replacing the content in other online formats and/or in print, so some titles from the cancelled collection will eventually be available again.  Please contact the Dental Library for a list of those titles, or for information on other related resources.

Downtime for Web of Science

Due to scheduled maintenance, Web of Science may be unavailable from 7 pm on Saturday, June 2nd, until 7 pm on Sunday, June 3rd. Their site says that access may be intermittent during this block of time. We apologize for the inconvenience and suggest you plan your research schedule according. Or better yet, just enjoy an evening off. You’ve earned it!

A new selection of articles has been added to the Faculty Publications display in the Ische Library. These eight articles, as well as all of the articles in our Faculty Publications database, are authored by at least one member of our research community here at LSUHSC-New Orleans. Each month the Library is proud to present copies of eight of these publications in a rotating display of 16. They can be viewed in the Reference area, on the wall between the main entrance and the Library elevator, on the third floor of the Resource Center Building.

AccessMedicine Downtime

We received notification from McGraw-Hill Education that they will be doing scheduled server maintenance this weekend.  As a result, the AccessMedicine sites will be unavailable from 7 pm Saturday, June 2nd, until 1 am Sunday, June 3rd.  You will not be able to access the databases or any ebooks in our catalog that link to their website during those six hours.

The fine folks at McGraw-Hill have apologized for any inconvenience.  Please plan your research efforts according.

Graphic Medicine: Ill-Conceived and Well-Drawn

What happens when health-related issues and cartoons merge? A National Library of Medicine exhibit called, “Graphic Medicine: Ill-Conceived and Well-Drawn!”.  The exhibit will open next week, May 21^st-June 8^th, in the John P. Isché Library Commons. Learn about the latest medical oriented graphic novels and where to find them. After a three week run in the Commons, the display will then arrive at the Dental Campus for the following dates of June 13th-29^th. So, check out the National Library of Medicine exhibition; “Graphic Medicine: Ill-Conceived and Well-Drawn!”.

Publications cited in the Faculty Publications database are harvested weekly from a variety of sources, such as PubMed, SCOPUS, and CINAHL, to name a few. In addition to articles they include books, book chapters, papers, editorials, letters to the editor, and meeting abstracts, all authored by at least one member of the LSUHSC-NO community. The database is maintained by Reference Librarian Kathy Kerdolff and is available to the general public here or via the Library’s webpage. DentalCheck App from CDC Helps Infection Prevention

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have released the DentalCheck app!

Dental health care personnel can use this app to periodically assess infection prevention and control practices in their facility and ensure they are meeting the minimum expectations for safe care. The infection prevention coordinator and other staff are encouraged to use this app at least annually to review policies and observe patient-care practices. DentalCheck is now available for free download on iOS and Android devices.

ScienceDirect EBS Collection – Time Is Running Out!

Have you had a chance to explore the special ScienceDirect EBS Collection? This multi-faceted collection of over 5000 ebooks will only be available until the end of June, so what are you waiting for? The topics covered in this exciting group of texts range from earth sciences to psychiatry, computer science to dentistry, farming to pharmacology, engineering to surgery, criminology to physical therapy.  There are books on advances in data analytics, mathematics, genetics, pediatrics, geriatrics, forensics, diagnostics, and analgesics.
