A new selection of articles have been added to the Faculty Publications display in the Ische Library. These eight articles, as well as all of the articles in our Faculty Publications database, are authored by at least one member of our research community here at LSUHSC-New Orleans. Each month the Library is proud to present copies of eight of these publications in a rotating display of 16. With the currently changes, we’ve decided to post the publications digitally. Check out the display below:
Publications cited in the Faculty Publications database are harvested weekly from a variety of sources, such as PubMed, SCOPUS, and CINAHL, to name a few. In addition to articles they include books, book chapters, papers, editorials, letters to the editor, and meeting abstracts, all authored by at least one member of the LSUHSC-NO community. The database is maintained by Reference Librarian Kathy Kerdolff and will be available to the general public here or via the Library’s webpage. A PDF of a bibliography of this month’s addition will be available here. If you have an article you would like us to highlight or if you have any questions regarding the display or the database, you can contact Kathy Kerdolff.

The National Convention of the Medical Library Association is in New Orleans this week; both Libraries will be a bit short-staffed Wednesday, May 4th through Friday, May 6th.
Almost all of our librarians will be attending the conference at the convention center. J. Dale Prince, Library Director, is an elected member of the MLA Board and also serves as treasurer. Jennifer K. Lloyd, Associate Director, is co-chair of the local assistance committee, on the national planning committee and is presenting an immersion session. Rebecca Bealer, Serials/Systems Librarian, and Marlene Bishop, Collection Development Librarian, are both invited speakers and are presenting a joint poster.
A project to cut through the walls on the 5th Floor is set to start on Thursday, April 28, 2022, and is to last for two months. There will be considerable noise in the area.
Once we learned this project was proceeding we asked it be delayed until after exams, but it will begin on Thursday.
The Libraries will be closed Friday, April 15-17 for the University Easter Holiday. Both the Isché and Dental Libraries will close at 6pm on Thursday, April 14th. Both Libraries will re-open at 8am on Monday, April 18.
The LSUHSC Isché Library would like to welcome our new librarian, Sharon Duffy! Sharon joined us this month as our new Research Services Librarian, a position aimed at supporting the research endeavors of the University.
Sharon received her Master of Library and Information Science degree from Dominican University in River Forest, IL and her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She previously worked as a school librarian in the Archdiocese of New Orleans and also has prior experience as a Reference Librarian in the pharmaceutical industry.

The Isché Library will open at 12 noon on Saturday, April 2nd instead of 9:30am. The Library will still close at 6pm.
This change is necessary because Facility Services will be working on the emergency power automatic transfer switch. The entire Resource Center Building will have intermittent complete outages of both regular power and emergency power. All power, safety lighting, elevators and air handling will be affected by these outages.
The Isché Library will close early or be closed over Mardi Gras weekend; it will close at 5pm on Friday, February 25th and Monday, February 28th. Also, the Isché Library will be closed Saturday and Sunday, February 26th and 27th.
Both the Dental and Isché Libraries will be closed on Tuesday, March 1st. And will reopen at their reduced level on Wednesday, March 2nd.
Facilities will be doing an emergency repair on the 4th floor of the Isché Library today, near the study rooms on the Tulane Ave side of the building. Thanks for your patience.

The Isché Library internal elevator is out of service. If you need assistance accessing the upper floors of the downtown library, please ask the circulation desk staff for assistance in using the freight elevator. We apologize for the inconvenience.
A new collection has been added to the LSUHSC Digital Collection, the Robert Simmons Photograph Collection. The Robert Simmons collection features historical photographs of the fifth and building of the sixth Charity Hospitals, hidden camera photographs taken before cell phones, and the professors that taught the professors that taught your professors. Robert Simmons captured images of his time at LSU School of Medicine as a student and at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center as a professor. These images feature descriptions that were orally provided by Robert Simmons and feature a unique perspective of the school. Take a look and see if there’s anyone you recognize! If you have a question about the collection, or can provide more information about any of the photos you see, email digitalarchives@lsuhsc.edu
