EZproxy

UPDATE: EZproxy maintenance June 14th

UPDATE: EZproxy is back up and running. If you run into any problems, contact us.

On Wednesday, June 14, 2023, EZproxy will be unavailable for two to three hours for server maintenance. During this time, links from the Library’s catalog, E-Journals & E-Books AtoZ List, Databases, and most other links from Library resources may not work correctly.

If you are off campus, you can log into many resources directly by using OpenAthens. A list of sites where you can do so and instructions are available on the OpenAthens LibGuide.

If you are on campus, please contact us and we can provide links to resources while the system is unavailable.

Barcode and PIN login not available

As a result of the continuing issues with the LSUHSC-NO networks and systems, it is not possible to log in using a Library barcode and PIN at this time. You can log in using your LSUHSC-NO email and password or your LSUHSC-NO user i.d. and password.

We have a video on logging in with your email and another for alternate logins, but the barcode and PIN will not apply at this time.

If you need assistance with this or any other Library resources, contact us.

Accessing online resources

Although the LSUHSC-NO site is finally available again, our EZproxy server has yet to be brought back online, meaning you will run into problems when attempting to get to many of our resources on and off campus. This affects the majority of links to online books and journals in the Library’s catalog and resources on the Databases listings, as well as many links to articles from the WebBridge Link Resolver and LibKey products. We do not have information on when the EZproxy service will be restored.

If you are off campus, you can log into many resources directly by using OpenAthens. A list of sites where you can do so and instructions are available on the OpenAthens LibGuide.

If you are on campus, all links to external sites will not work. We will see what can be done about this.

The Library will reopen on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, so please contact us if you need assistance with getting resources.

EZproxy and Dynamed images issues

If you follow the Library’s link to Dynamed that routes through the EZproxy service, please be advised that images are not showing up for each topic now. This affects accessing Dynamed off campus or when on campus and connected to the LSUHSC-Secure wifi network.

Until this problem is fixed, you can access Dynamed directly using OpenAthens. First, go to https://www.dynamed.com and click on the person icon on the right of the page:

Then, click on the “Sign in now” link:

Next, click “Institutional OpenAthens” at the bottom of the screen:

At the next screen enter “lsu” in box on the right and choose “LSU Health Sciences Center Library” when it appears:

Finally, enter your full LSUHSC-NO e-mail address and current password and you will finally have access to Dynamed!

We will update when we have more information about this problem with Dynamed and EZproxy, but if you need help with this or any other Library resources, contact us.

UPDATE 3: The problem affecting LibKey product links has been fixed. You should now be able to access all Wiley articles when logging in off campus regardless of which link you use.

UPDATE 2: We are still experiencing issues with LibKey product links. If you are off campus and follow a link to a Wiley article PDF from LibKey Nomad or the link resolver in PubMed, you will not be able to access the article. Please follow the instructions below on how to access articles directly, or contact us if you need assistance.

UPDATE 1: As of Wednesday, October 27, 2021, the issues affecting EZproxy links to Wiley titles has been resolved, but there is a chance it might recur. If you find you are unable to access a Wiley book or journal, please follow the instructions below to log in directly using OpenAthens.

If you are trying to access a Wiley book or journal with a link that goes through our EZproxy system, those are currently not working correctly. All EZproxy users are experiencing this problem, and it affects links to Wiley titles in the Library’s catalog, E-Journals & E-Books A to Z List, our WebBridge Link Resolver, and all LibKey products.

Until this problem is fixed, you can access Wiley journals and books directly by using OpenAthens.

Start at https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com. When at the Wiley site, click Login/Register on the right of the screen:

Fixed: EZproxy service up and running again

UPDATE: EZproxy is back up and running, so all links to Library resources are functioning both on and off campus again.

Original Post:

We are having trouble with our off campus authentication service EZproxy. Any links from the Library’s catalog, web site, and the E-Journals & E-Books A to Z List are not working at the moment.

For many publishers and resources, you will be able to log in directly using OpenAthens. Please see this page listing sites that support direct log in using your LSUHSC-NO e-mail and password. When you scroll to the bottom of this page, it will show you what you need to do once at those sites to log in.

We will update as soon as we have more information, but if you need assistance please contact us.

Fixed: Troubles with direct access to Science via OpenAthens

UPDATE: As of September 15, 2021, you can log in using OpenAthens when accessing Science directly. Please contact us if you are encountering any problems.

Original post:

If you need to get to the journals Science or Science Translational Medicine, please be aware that direct access via OpenAthens is currently unavailable. If you go directly to Science’s new site at https://www.science.org and try to log in using OpenAthens credentials, you will be unable to access any content. You will need to follow links that go through the Library’s EZproxy service in order to get to the full text of these journals. Links from the Library’s catalog, E-Journals & E-Books A to Z List, and our link resolver and LibKey products will route you through the proper channels to access the content.

To get to any articles from Science, please use this link: https://ezproxy.lsuhsc.edu/login?url=https://www.science.org/loi/science. For Science Translational Medicine this link will get you to that journal’s content: https://ezproxy.lsuhsc.edu/login?url=https://www.science.org/loi/stm. You can log in using your LSUHSC-NO e-mail and password by clicking the first link on the page for either title.

If you need assistance with this or any other Library resources, please contact us.

Update: Problems accessing JAMA Network journals off campus

Update: As of Friday, August 27, the error that was preventing access to any JAMA Network journal content from off campus via a Library EZproxy link has been resolved, but we are still seeing odd page displays.

When you follow one of the Library’s link to any JAMA Network title, you may see some icons on page not displaying correctly. Fortunately, the link to download PDFs of articles is displaying properly:

Screenshot of article download options

Until this issue is completely fixed you may encounter other problems, so please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need help. You may also continue to access JAMA Network titles directly via OpenAthens as described below.

Original post:

There is an issue that is affecting all subscribers to titles included in the JAMA Network family of journals when trying to access off campus via EZproxy. For us this means that you will encounter this error message when trying to access any JAMA title off campus from the Library’s Catalog, E-Journals & E-Books A to Z List, EDS Health Discovery service, and any LibKey products:

Screenshot of error message

JAMA Network is aware of the issue and is currently working to resolve it. If you are on campus via a wired connection you will not see this problem, but if you are connected via the LSUHSC-Secure wireless network you will still have this issue although you are on campus. This same issue also extends to any connections via the VPN.

Until it is fixed, you can access JAMA Network journals from off campus by going directly to https://jamanetwork.com/ and logging in via Open Athens.

First, when at the site’s home page, click on “Sign In” to the right of the screen:

Then, click the link to “OpenAthens” :

At the next screen, enter “LSU” in the box to the right and then click the link for “LSU Health Sciences Center” :

Then, on the next screen enter your full LSUHSC-NO e-mail address and current password:

If you need any assistance accessing articles from the JAMA Network journals or if you need help with any other Library resources, please contact us.

Issues with PubMed and myNCBI/PubMed login

If you follow the Library’s link to PubMed where you are asked to log in through EZproxy, please note there is a problem when attempting to log into your myNCBI/PubMed account using the third party/federated logins such as Google and Login.gov. After following the Library’s link to PubMed and then logging into your myNCBI/PubMed account, you will most likely encounter an error message or just a blank screen.

At present, the only login that will work if you use the Library’s link to PubMed is the old NCBI account login, but only if you went through the transition steps before this login option was phased out in June.

Screenshot of login options

If you did not transition this account, you will not be able to create a new one at this time.

Please remember that creating a myNCBI/PubMed account will not grant you access to journals. This account just provides the ability to save searches and create search alerts.

However, if you would like to use your myNCBI/PubMed account and have easy access to articles in journals the Library subscribes to, we recommend the following:

  • Install LibKey Nomad in your browser; it can be used in Chrome, Firefox, and Edge; you can also install LibKey Nomad in Chrome found in your Citrix desktop
  • Go directly to https://pubmed.gov
  • Log in to your myNCBI/PubMed account using the federated method you choose (Google, Login.gov, etc.)

With these above steps, you will have easy access to full text with LibKey Nomad yet still have the ability to work with your myNCBI/PubMed account.

Additionally, please note that we do not support the Research Institution login at this time. As a result, you will need to use one of the other login options listed for the myNCBI/PubMed account. We will update when there is a change to this.

If you need any help with this or any other Library resources, please contact us.

EZproxy working again

UPDATE: The upgrade is complete and EZproxy is running as normal. However, if you encounter any troubles please contact us.

Original post: Off campus links that use EZproxy will be unavailable on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, starting at 7am due to a system update.

You can log in directly at some publishers’ sites using OpenAthens in the interim.

We will update when the update has been completed.

EZproxy login issues

If you are attempting to log into EZproxy by entering your LSUHSC-NO username and password in the barcode and PIN field, we are currently experiencing issues with that system.

You can log in using your LSUHSC-NO full e-mail address and password by clicking the first link on the EZproxy login page:

If you need help with this or any other Library resources, please contact us.

UPDATE: EZproxy available

UPDATE: The upgrade has been completed and all off campus links using EZproxy are working. If you encounter any trouble, please contact us.

Off campus links that use EZproxy are currently unavailable due to a system update.

You can log in directly at some publishers’ sites using OpenAthens in the interim.

Citrix and Library resources

If you are attempting to use any Library resources such as ebooks, journals, or databases, and have gone in through Citrix, you may wonder why you are are being asked to pay or you’re seeing something saying you need a subscription.

Even though you are in Citrix, you may still have to prove to publishers that you have permission to access the resources. Unfortunately, Citrix doesn’t always send that information along, so it’s important you use a link from the Library’s site or create one in order to guarantee you can get to what you should.

One key thing to look for is whether the link you’re following has “ezproxy.lsuhsc.edu” anywhere. If it does, then you’re good to go! If it does not, you may not be able to get to the resource you need. You can fix this, however, by running the link to the resource you need through our magical off campus link maker available here: https://libguides.lsuhsc.edu/openathens/offcampuslink. Then follow these instructions:
