How is it Easter time already?

The Isché Library will be closed on Friday, April 10th in addition to our already reduced hours.

The Libraries will re-open on Monday, April 13th at 8am.

Tips for off campus access to online resources

Many publishers are adding alternatives to access online resources, and we just want to provide a few tips to help you figure all of this out:

• To log into electronic resources off campus, you can use either your LSU Health New Orleans full e-mail address and password or a Library barcode and PIN
  • More information about these accounts are available on our Off Campus Access LibGuide and OpenAthens LibGuide
• All links to resources on the Library’s site are formatted to ask you to log in when needed; this is the preferred way to get to all of our resources
• Many of our online resources support logging in directly at the site using OpenAthens; a list of OpenAthens-native resources is available here
• Some publishers are now offering alternate ways to verify you have access to their content
  • If you are asked to select a federation to find an institution please remember we are part of the OpenAthens Federation
    • We are listed as LSU Health Sciences Center Library with OpenAthens
• If you are searching for articles, LibKey Nomad is a tremendous help to get you to both subscribed and free articles
  • It works with many publishers’ sites and makes getting to articles from PubMed very easy
  • It will ask you to log in when you needed to access articles

Due to current restrictions and recommendations, we are doing our best to add online access to our print books wherever possible.  In some instances we have acquired the newer editions, as older editions were not available or just too out of date.

Unfortunately, many publishers do not sell their online books to institutions and libraries, preferring students and instructors coordinate access directly through them. Some of those ebooks are available for sale through ebook sellers such as RedShelf and VitalSource, both of which are offering special access during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Libraries Reducing Hours Again

The Libraries are reducing hours again in response to the COVID-19 threat in the city of New Orleans.

The Ische Library will be open from 8am to 6pm Monday through Friday.

The Dental Library will be open on Mondays and Wednesdays only from 8am to 12noon.

The Library staff is available via Chat, Email or Telephone.

Trial access to online resources

McGraw-Hill (AccessMedicine) and Ovid/LWW (LWW Health Library) have offered to open up extended trial access to some of their resources during the COVID-19 outbreak.

We created a LibGuide to keep track of these: https://libguides.lsuhsc.edu/trial. We will add more resources as they become available.

McGraw-Hill additional access is through June 1st. Those resources are AccessBiomedical Science, Cardiology, Pediatrics, Physiotherapy, and F.A. Davis PT collection (part of AccessPhysiotherapy).

Ovid/LWW additional access is through May 19th. Those resources are 5-MinuteConsult, Acland’s Video Atlas of Human Anatomy, Bates Visual Guide to Physical Examination, LWW Health Library Clerkship/Clinical Rotations, LWW Health Library Exercise Science, LWW Health Library PA Rotations/Specialties.

Citrix and Library resources

If you are attempting to use any Library resources such as ebooks, journals, or databases, and have gone in through Citrix, you may wonder why you are are being asked to pay or you’re seeing something saying you need a subscription.

Even though you are in Citrix, you may still have to prove to publishers that you have permission to access the resources. Unfortunately, Citrix doesn’t always send that information along, so it’s important you use a link from the Library’s site or create one in order to guarantee you can get to what you should.

One key thing to look for is whether the link you’re following has “ezproxy.lsuhsc.edu” anywhere. If it does, then you’re good to go! If it does not, you may not be able to get to the resource you need. You can fix this, however, by running the link to the resource you need through our magical off campus link maker available here: https://libguides.lsuhsc.edu/openathens/offcampuslink. RESOLVED (mostly): LWW Health Library technical difficulties

It looks like our LWW Health Library access has been restored.  We are still seeing a few books listed in our collections that we shouldn’t be seeing, but the good news is access is mostly fully restored.  LWW also opened up a few extra collections during the CovID-19 outbreak.  We have extra access to the following collections through May 19th: Clerkship/Clinical Rotations, PA Rotations and Specialties, and Exercise Science.  We will blog more about those and a few other things as soon as the details are wrapped up. Thanks to Ovid/LWW for offering us those extended trials during this challenging time.

Our AccessMedicine access has been restored.  We have institutional access to the following subscribed collections: Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Surgery, Neurology, and the Case Files Collection.  McGraw-Hill is also in the process of adding extended trial access through June 1st to the following collections: Physiotherapy, F.A. Davis PT Collection, Pediatrics, Cardiology, and Biomedical Science.  We will update the blog once those are all turned on.

Starting today, Friday, March 20th, the Libraries will reduce their hours open.

The Ische Library will be open Monday – Thursday from 7:30am to 10 pm and on Fridays from 7:30am to 6pm.

The Dental Library will be open Monday – Friday from 8am to 5pm.

Checked Out Library Materials

If you currently have anything checked out from either of the LSUHSC Libraries, please do not come to campus to return it.

Do not worry about overdue items. We will work on getting our materials returned after our campuses return to normal services.

COVID-19: Acetaminophen not Ibuprofen

The British Medical Journal released a news item today, confirming the French Government’s assertion that ibuprofen seems to exacerbate the symptoms of COVID-19.

For the latest accurate information, the Louisiana Department of Health – Office of Public Health is maintaining a COVID-19 website.

It is updated 2x per day at 9:30am and 5:30pm.

Libraries to Remain Open

As of this moment, the Libraries (both Isché and Dental) plan to maintain their regular hours.

We ask that our patrons follow the CDC Guidelines on preventing illness.

Questions about COVID-19 now being answered by Louisiana 211 statewide network

Louisiana’s statewide 211 network is now answering calls about COVID-19, also known as the coronavirus. This network is best designed and staffed to handle the large volume of calls from Louisiana residents who are concerned and who have questions about the rapidly-spreading virus.

Anyone looking for information about the COVID-19 outbreak can simply dial 211 or text the keyword LACOVID to 898-211 for the most current information about the outbreak as it becomes available.
