Louisiana’s Health Data Portal

The Louisiana Department of Health has an interactive map that allows state “health, environmental, population and exposure information and data” to be viewed and compared in a single place.

New fields and more information will be added in the near future, updating the tool continually.

New NLM/NIH Display at the Ische Library

NursingPostcards

The Isché Library is pleased to host the National Library of Medicine/National Institutes of Health display: Pictures of Nursing: the Zwerdling Postcard Collection, which explores the relationship of nursing to events in 20th-century life and how nursing was perceived.  For more information on the exhibit, visit the NLM exhibition page.

The exhibit will be in the Library Commons from Monday, March 24th through Friday April 21st.

Reserve Anatomy Book Now Available as an Ebook

developing humanWe are pleased to announce that The Developing Human: Clinically Oriented Embryology, 10th edition, is now available in an Ebook format.

From the record in the library catalog, click on the link for EBSCOhost Ebooks. We have 3 “copies” available, so we are allowed 3 concurrent online users.

The print edition is on reserve for ANAT 100 – Gross Anatomy and ANAT 101 – Human Prenatal Development.  But we think you’ll find the electronic edition to be much lighter.

Faculty Publications Spotlight for March

A new selection of articles has been added to the Faculty Publications display in the Ische Library. These eight articles, as well as all of the articles in our Faculty Publications database, are authored by at least one member of our research community here at LSUHSC-New Orleans. Each month the Library is proud to present copies of eight of these publications in a rotating display of 16. They can be viewed in the Reference area, on the wall between the main entrance and the Library elevator, on the third floor of the Resource Center Building.

Publications cited in the Faculty Publications database are harvested weekly from a variety of sources, such as PubMed, SCOPUS, and CINAHL, to name a few. In addition to articles they include books, book chapters, papers, editorials, letters to the editor, and meeting abstracts, all authored by at least one member of the LSUHSC-NO community. The database is maintained by Reference Librarian Kathy Kerdolff and is available to the general public here or via the Library’s webpage. The Libraries will have shortened hours surrounding Carnival.

  • Friday, February 24th both the Dental and Isché Libraries close at 5 pm.
  • Saturday, February 25th the Isché Library will be open regular hours from 9:30 am to 6 pm & the Dental Library will be closed.
  • Sunday, February 26th the Dental Library will be open regular hours from 11:30 am to 8 pm & the Isché Library will be open 12 noon to 8:30 pm.
  • Monday, February 27th both Libraries will be open 8 am to 5 pm.
  • Tuesday, February 28th both Libraries will be closed for Mardi Gras.
  • Wednesday, March 1st the Dental Library will be open 8 am to 5 pm. The Isché Library will be open regular hours 8 am to 12 midnight.
  • Thursday, March 2nd the Dental Library will be open 8 am to 5 pm. The Isché Library will be open regular hours 8 am to 12 midnight.

Oxford journals available on-campus only

We are currently having trouble with off-campus access and journals we receive from Oxford University Press, so these titles will be available on-campus only until the problem is fixed. You will see a note indicating on-campus only restrictions for these journals displayed in links from the Library Catalog, A to Z List, and link resolver. As soon as the issue is resolved, we will restore off-campus access.

study helpExam time got you stressed? Did you know the library has flashcards online? Through our AccessMedicine platform you can access flashcards in a variety of subjects.

On the left side of the library web page choose Databases. Click on the “A” under browse and select AccessMedicine (on or off campus). Click on Study Tools and choose Flashcards from the drop-down menu.

*If you are a first time user you will need to set up your profile, but then you will be good to go.

May, is now available online through the EBSCOhost eBooks platform, as well as through the R2 Digital Library.  The Library was able to purchase multiple-user access through EBSCO, so now more than one user can access the book at the same time.  Our R2 Digital Library access for this book allows for one user at a time.

This book is required for course PHTH 7234 – Prosthetics and Orthotics in Physical Therapy.  We hope this additional access will be helpful!
