The Library Welcomes Our New Librarian, Sharon Duffy

The LSUHSC Isché Library would like to welcome our new librarian, Sharon Duffy! Sharon joined us this month as our new Research Services Librarian, a position aimed at supporting the research endeavors of the University.

Sharon received her Master of Library and Information Science degree from Dominican University in River Forest, IL and her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She previously worked as a school librarian in the Archdiocese of New Orleans and also has prior experience as a Reference Librarian in the pharmaceutical industry.

Thanks for joining us in welcoming Sharon to the team!

April Faculty Publications

A new selection of articles have been added to the Faculty Publications display in the Ische Library. These eight articles, as well as all of the articles in our Faculty Publications database, are authored by at least one member of our research community here at LSUHSC-New Orleans. Each month the Library is proud to present copies of eight of these publications in a rotating display of 16. With the currently changes, we’ve decided to post the publications digitally. Check out the display below:

Publications cited in the Faculty Publications database are harvested weekly from a variety of sources, such as PubMedSCOPUS, and CINAHL, to name a few. In addition to articles they include books, book chapters, papers, editorials, letters to the editor, and meeting abstracts, all authored by at least one member of the LSUHSC-NO community. The database is maintained by Reference Librarian Kathy Kerdolff and will be available to the general public here or via the Library’s webpage. A PDF of a bibliography of this month’s addition will be available here. If you have an article you would like us to highlight or if you have any questions regarding the display or the database, you can contact Kathy Kerdolff.

RefWorks Citation Manager now available

If you use the online version of Word in Office 365 or newer versions of the desktop version of Word for Mac or Windows, the old Write-N-Cite product has been replaced by the RefWorks Citation Manager. This add in is only available through the Office Store and, thanks to the help from Campus IT, it is now available for everyone to download and use.

Instructions on installing this extension are available in our RefWorks LibGuide. If you need help with this or any other Library resources, contact us.

Delayed Opening Isché Library Saturday 4/2/2022

The Isché Library will open at 12 noon on Saturday, April 2nd instead of 9:30am. The Library will still close at 6pm.

This change is necessary because Facility Services will be working on the emergency power automatic transfer switch. The entire Resource Center Building will have intermittent complete outages of both regular power and emergency power. All power, safety lighting, elevators and air handling will be affected by these outages.

No Hot Water Downtown 2-9pm 3/31/2022

Message from the Facilities Department:

“On Thursday, March 31st, from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM, there will be a domestic hot water and heating hot water outage on the Downtown Campus affecting the Resource Center Building, Allied Health/Nursing Building, Lions/LSU Clinics Building, Dr. Mervin L. Trail Clinical Sciences Research Building, Medical Education Building and the Residence Hall Building.  During this outage there will be water pressure on the hot water side of faucets but the water will not be hot.  In addition, portions of some buildings may become cooler than normal during the outage due to the lack of heating hot water.  Facility Services will monitor temperatures throughout the outage.  The outage will not affect the hot water supply for any other building.  This outage is necessary for the Central Utility Plant FEMA Mitigation Project contractor to repair steam leaks in the Central Plant.”

Campus Closure 3/30/2022 @ 3pm

Another week, another round of bad weather. New Orleans LSUHSC campuses are closing at 3pm today.
