On Wednesday, September 28th, Frank Wagner, M.D., SoM Class of 1961, will present his book “Two Men and a Hospital: the Evolution of Algiers General Hospital Via Henry A. LaRocca, M.D. & Ernest A. Schiro M.D.” in the Moreau Center at the University of Holy Cross.
The book details, in part through personal interviews and illustrations, how Algiers got its first hospital after 200 years of existence due the efforts of two men, including Dr. Henry A. LaRocca, who was part of LSU School of Medicine’s first graduating class in 1933.
The presentation is being hosted by the Blaine S. Kern Library at the University of Holy Cross. For more information, email schaubhut@uhcno.edu.
Facilities will be testing the Emergency Power System on Saturday, September 24th from 8am until noon. The Isché Library and the RCB are in the testing area. The Library plans on opening at 9:30am as usual. But there may be an short outage while the system is being tested.
The LSUHSC Libraries would like to welcome our new librarian, David Trillo! David was welcomed to the library in the beginning of September and will be the new Scholarly Communications Librarian. This position will provide the University support in promoting the academic research being published from our campus.
David received his Masters of Science and Library Science from the University of North Texas and a Bachelors of Arts in History with a minor in Geology. He previously worked at the University of Nevada Las Vegas in the Scholarly Communication Department at the Lied Library. David comes to us from El Paso, Texas and is eager to get to know New Orleans and the places to play racquetball.

All Wiley journals are not easily available on campus or via any link that goes through EZproxy for off campus access. If you attempt to get the full text of any Wiley journal through any of these methods, you will be asked to log in or pay.
Logging in directly to Wiley Online Library using OpenAthens is a temporary workaround. Follow these steps to log in when off campus:
If you are on campus, follow the same steps above, but the login screen will look like this where you enter just your LSUHSC-NO username (the first part of your email before the @lsuhsc.edu) and current password:

Last week the Chancellor’s Excellence award winners were announced and the Libraries’ own Rebecca Bealer was one of the recipients!
Rebecca has worked for the LSUHSC Libraries since 1996 in a variety of rolls. Most importantly for the campus, she was the team lead on rolling out our current off campus management system in 2018. She also is in charge of all the serials/journals for both of our libraries AND is a Mac expert on campus.

If you are moving to the CALS building, please note that there will be a change to how you access Library resources. Due to the network that is used in CALS, it will appear as if you are off campus.
For those moving from the MEB in particular, if you’re used to going to sites directly without using Library links to do so, you will run into trouble getting resources as your new connection will not be seen as being truly on campus.
To ensure you’re recognized by resource providers as publishers as having access, it is best to use the links we have to databases, books, and journals. Using our links makes sure you’re authenticated and will not run into paywalls along the way. You can find these links in a variety of places: the Library’s web site, the Library catalog, the E-Journals & E-Books A to Z List, and our databases list. If you’ve not authenticated, you will be asked to log in using either your LSUHSC-NO email, a Library-issued barcode, or your network username. More information about logging in can be found on our Off Campus LibGuide.
A handy tool to help you navigate the minefield of authentication and access is the LibKey Nomad browser extension. It displays quick links to articles along with prompting for authentication when needed. It can be used in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, and Vivaldi browsers.
Another quick way to get to articles is the LibKey.io quick DOI and PMID lookup tool. All you need to do is plug in a PMID or DOI and let LibKey.io not only lead to the article, or options to get it, but it also ensures you’re signed in when needed.
