Today officially marks New Orleans’ 300th year. The actual founding date is a bit murky but this is the date picked by the city for this anniversary kickoff!

Faculty Publications Spotlight for May

A new selection of articles has been added to the Faculty Publications display in the Ische Library. These eight articles, as well as all of the articles in our Faculty Publications database, are authored by at least one member of our research community here at LSUHSC-New Orleans. Each month the Library is proud to present copies of eight of these publications in a rotating display of 16. They can be viewed in the Reference area, on the wall between the main entrance and the Library elevator, on the third floor of the Resource Center Building.

Medical Laboratory Professional’s Week

We are joining the CDC’s Division Laboratory Systems in celebrating Medical Laboratory Professional’s week!

This week (April 22-28) highlights the importance and outstanding work ethic of laboratory professionals who strive for excellence daily. The DLS has created the “League of Laboratory Superheroes” to bring public awareness to the unseen heros Medical Laboratory Professionals and their essential role in the medical field and public safety.

DentalCheck App from CDC Helps Infection Prevention

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have released the DentalCheck app!

Dental health care personnel can use this app to periodically assess infection prevention and control practices in their facility and ensure they are meeting the minimum expectations for safe care. The infection prevention coordinator and other staff are encouraged to use this app at least annually to review policies and observe patient-care practices. DentalCheck is now available for free download on iOS and Android devices.

Yellow Fever Vaccine

If you’re up on your New Orleans medical history, you’ll know that the last outbreak of Yellow Fever here was in 1905. Brazil isn’t so lucky and are in the middle of an outbreak. The CDC is recommending a dose of Yellow Fever vaccine before traveling to Brazil or Africa.

State Health Department Confirms Measles Case in New Orleans

Louisiana state health officials are investigating a confirmed case of measles in New Orleans. The illness was confirmed through laboratory testing in a recent traveler from Europe to New Orleans.

Ische Library – Early Closure 4/5/18

The Isché Library will close at 6pm on Thursday, April 5th because the water will be shut off in the building for an emergency plumbing repair. The Library Commons may be open, however restrooms and water fountains in other buildings will need to be used. The water is expected to remain off until 10:30pm.

ScienceDirect EBS Collection – Time Is Running Out!

Have you had a chance to explore the special ScienceDirect EBS Collection? This multi-faceted collection of over 5000 ebooks will only be available until the end of June, so what are you waiting for? Easter Hours

Easter Eggs

The Isché & Dental Libraries will be closed Friday, March 30th through Sunday, April 1st for Easter. The Isché Library will close at 6pm on Thursday, March 29th and the Dental Library will close at 5pm on that day.

Both Libraries will reopen on Monday, April 2nd at 8am.

Elevator Maintenance: Roman Street Parking Garage 3/24

Between the hours of 7am and 12pm, the elevators in the Roman Street Parking Garage will be out of service. The Automatic Transfer Switch is being replaced.
