The LibKey Nomad browser extension that makes getting articles and using databases such as PubMed easy is now available for the desktop version of Safari.
The Dental Library closed today, August 25, 2022, at 10am due to the ongoing window remediation. We expect to re-open around September 7, 2022. The print collection will be unavailable during this time. Please contact us at dentlib@lsuhsc.edu or use the chat service on our hompage if you need assistance. Thank you for understanding and your cooperation.
Last week the Chancellor’s Excellence award winners were announced and the Libraries’ own Rebecca Bealer was one of the recipients!
Rebecca has worked for the LSUHSC Libraries since 1996 in a variety of rolls. Most importantly for the campus, she was the team lead on rolling out our current off campus management system in 2018. She also is in charge of all the serials/journals for both of our libraries AND is a Mac expert on campus.
The Libraries (and our organization) are very lucky and proud to have her in our ranks
If you are moving to the CALS building, please note that there will be a change to how you access Library resources. Due to the network that is used in CALS, it will appear as if you are off campus.
For those moving from the MEB in particular, if you’re used to going to sites directly without using Library links to do so, you will run into trouble getting resources as your new connection will not be seen as being truly on campus.
To ensure you’re recognized by resource providers as publishers as having access, it is best to use the links we have to databases, books, and journals. Using our links makes sure you’re authenticated and will not run into paywalls along the way. You can find these links in a variety of places: the Library’s web site, the Library catalog, the E-Journals & E-Books A to Z List, and our databases list. If you’ve not authenticated, you will be asked to log in using either your LSUHSC-NO email, a Library-issued barcode, or your network username. More information about logging in can be found on our Off Campus LibGuide.
A handy tool to help you navigate the minefield of authentication and access is the LibKey Nomad browser extension. It displays quick links to articles along with prompting for authentication when needed. It can be used in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, and Vivaldi browsers.
Another quick way to get to articles is the LibKey.io quick DOI and PMID lookup tool. All you need to do is plug in a PMID or DOI and let LibKey.io not only lead to the article, or options to get it, but it also ensures you’re signed in when needed. We have more information about this tool on our LibKey.io LibGuide.
We also have a LibGuide about accessing resources from CALS.
If you have any questions about this or any other Library resources, please contact us.
ClinicalKey will be performing system maintenance tomorrow morning, August 20th, from 6AM to 8AM our time. They are performing a systems upgrade and our access to materials may be interrupted during that time.
They do apologize for the the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
A new selection of articles have been added to the Faculty Publications display in the Ische Library. These eight articles, as well as all of the articles in our Faculty Publications database, are authored by at least one member of our research community here at LSUHSC-New Orleans. Each month the Library is proud to present copies of eight of these publications in a rotating display of 16. With the currently changes, we’ve decided to post the publications digitally. Check out the display below:
Publications cited in the Faculty Publications database are harvested weekly from a variety of sources, such as PubMed, SCOPUS, and CINAHL, to name a few. In addition to articles they include books, book chapters, papers, editorials, letters to the editor, and meeting abstracts, all authored by at least one member of the LSUHSC-NO community. The database is maintained by Metadata & Digital Projects Librarian Andrew Olinik.
A PDF of a bibliography of this month’s addition will be available here. If you have an article you would like us to highlight or if you have any questions regarding the display or the database, you can contact Andrew Olinik.
ORIGINAL POST August 5, 2022: If you are trying to access ClinicalKey using any link that has https://ezproxy.lsuhsc.edu/login?url= as the prefix, it is currently not working. This will affect all off campus access, as well as using ClinicalKey through the VPN, Citrix, or on campus when logged into the LSUHSC-Secure wireless network.
Until this problem is resolved, you can access ClinicalKey by:
On Thursday evening, Wolters Kluwer — Ovid — will be performing scheduled maintenance on their journals platform.
Starting at 11:00 PM NOLA time, you will be unable to access the journals provided via Ovid for about 45 minutes. The provider will try to limit the downtime as much as possible.
We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.
The Louisiana Digital Library website will be down for scheduled updates. The interruption will take place on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 from 9:00am until 5:00pm and the website will be inaccessible during this time. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause for our users.
Bates’ Visual Guide includes over 200 streaming videos on physical examination, communication and interpersonal skills, and Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) clinical skills.
The visual guide can be used alongside the textbook, Bates’ Guide to Physical Examination and History Taking by Lynn Bickley, which the library subscribes to via the LWW Health Library: https://innopac.lsuhsc.edu/record=b1153440~S1.
We hope you find this useful! Let us know if you need more information, LibraryTech@lsuhsc.edu.
The good folks at PsychiatryOnline have sent out a notification about maintenance on their website this weekend.
“PsychiatryOnline will be undergoing maintenance on July 8-10. If you are accessing any journal or book content via username/password, certain content will not be available. We apologize for the interruption.”
If you are accessing materials via our links, whether on campus or off, you shouldn’t have any problems. If you do encounter difficulty accessing certain content, though, this might be the cause. You can contact us if you have any problems.
