The Simulation Center of the Nursing Skills and Technology Center at LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing was re-accredited through 2027 in Teaching/Education by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing was the first to be accredited in simulation education in Louisiana.

“I am excited and proud to receive re-accreditation for our Simulation Center from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare,” says Alison PhD, RN, CNE, CHSE, Interim Associate Dean for Nursing Research, Scholarship and Science and Director of Nurse Educator Concentration at LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing. “This status demonstrates our dedication to excellence in simulation teaching and education. The re-accreditation would not have been possible without our team of administration, faculty, and staff.”

The Society cited the impending move to the LSU Health New Orleans’ almost completed Center for Advance Learning and Simulation facility as an exemplary finding. “This new space will nearly double the available simulation space while providing a more conducive environment for future simulations. As part of this move, there are expansion plans to the programs that will better serve the college stakeholders including 5 active surrounding hospitals. In addition, this new space will bring different other healthcare programs under one roof to allow intradisciplinary simulation.”

More than two decades ago, LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine pioneered simulated medical education and remains one of the country’s leaders in simulation-based health education and training. It was not long before other LSU Health New Orleans schools followed suit. LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing bought its first high fidelity simulator in 2003.

Simulation-based nursing education provides a controlled environment to imitate a real-life patient care setting using full-sized patient simulators, task trainers and diagnostic equipment. It enables error-forgiving, safe and supportive learning in critical care, acute care, labor and delivery, as well as operating room settings. Through simulation, learners can practice and master nursing skills without putting patients at risk.
