Through a variety of activities, faculty and staff at LSU Health New Orleans will raise awareness about breast cancer and share the latest information on topics from research discoveries and clinical trials, to current treatments and what is on the horizon during the month of October – Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The events are free and open to the public.

LSU Health New Orleans faculty experts will present the following lectures at the Breast Health and Cancer Symposium on Saturday, October 1, 2016, from 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. at UMC New Orleans, Conference Center, Room J:

On October 6, 2016, at 10:00 a.m., Adam I. Riker, MD, FACS, Professor of Surgery and Chief of Surgical Oncology at LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine, will present Current Management of Breast Cancer at LSU Health New Orleans’ Human Development Center, 411 South Prieur Street, First Floor Auditorium.

On Saturday, October 15, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., former State Sen. Diana Bajoie, Director of the LSU Health New Orleans Office of Community Relations, LSU Health New Orleans School of Public Health and Xavier University students, will offer Beauty is Really Skin Deep events at New Orleans beauty salons and barber shops. The free outreach events include education about early detection and breast cancer self-exam demonstrations, as well as blood pressure screening, educational materials and free giveaways. Additionally, LSU Health New Orleans is honoring breast cancer survivors on its Survivor Board outside of the cafeteria in the Medical Education Building from September 30 - October 31, 2016.

A series of Breast Health Facts will rotate on the campus digital billboards throughout the month.

Friday, October 14, 2016, is Pink Out the Campus Day, when all faculty, staff and students are encouraged to wear pink to work.
