According to the Society, election as a Fellow of ASCB is an honor bestowed upon ASCB members by their peers. The list of approved Fellow nominees is reviewed and approved by the ASCB Council. Dr. Alahari’s selection is life-time recognition of his meritorious efforts to advance cell biology and its applications, as well as his work in service to the Society.

Dr. Alahari, who joined the LSU Health New Orleans faculty in 2004, is conjointly appointed as a professor in the Department of Genetics and is also a member of the LSU Health New Orleans Stanley S. Scott Cancer Center.

Suresh Alahari, PhD
His research interests include the biochemistry of cell adhesion and the mechanism of action of the novel protein he discovered, Nischarin, in biological processes such as breast cancer cell migration, tumor suppression and metabolic diseases like obesity and diabetes. He and his colleagues have shown that it may have potential as a possible therapeutic or preventive compound.

The new ASCB Fellows will be formally recognized before the keynote address at the 2021 Cell Bio Virtual meeting online in December.
