National Kidney Foundation Inducts LSU Health’s Rivera as Fellow

Sherry Rivera, DNP, APRN, ANP-C, Assistant Professor at LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing, has been inducted as a Fellow of the National Kidney Foundation and will be recognized in April at the Spring Clinical Meeting 2022 in Boston. The National Kidney Foundation recognizes health care providers who serve the organization through professional, educational, and community service activities promoting the mission of the National Kidney Foundation. Dr. Rivera serves as the Co-Chair of the Spring Clinical Meeting and on the Executive Committee for the National Kidney Foundation Council of Advanced Practice Providers.

Dr. Rivera’s nursing experience includes working in nephrology practice as a Nurse Practitioner, medical-surgical nursing, and telemetry. She has also had experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. She served as a member of the End Stage Renal Disease Patient-Reported Outcomes Technical Expert Panel (2017).

Her research interests include Improving patient and/or provider knowledge about issues related to chronic kidney disease, patient-centered care, patient-reported outcomes, nephrology nursing workforce development, multidisciplinary teams, medication safety, care delivery models for the chronically ill, quality measures, and pay for performance.

Rivera is a member of the National Kidney Foundation, American Nephrology Nurses Association, American Society of Nephrology, Louisiana Association of Nurse Practitioners, and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She also is a member of Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society. She is a New Orleans City Business Healthcare Hero Honoree (2021) and received the DAISY Faculty Award (2021), the Outstanding Nurse Practitioner Faculty Award from LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing (2019), the Education Writing Award from the Nephrology Nursing Journal (2018) and the Outstanding Doctor of Nursing Practice Award from the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing (2015).
