This is an entry level faculty position within the library.

The Louisiana State University Health Shreveport (LSUHS) Library seeks a motivated, collaborative, and service-oriented Reference Librarian to provide reference service support of research endeavors of the LSUHS campus.

Job responsibilities will Include but not limited to:

  • Assisting in reference services which includes systematic review service for faculty and students
  • Maintain subject portal resources for the Library.

Regular attendance is required to perform the functions of this position.

Incumbent will maintain a customer-oriented awareness in acknowledging and responding to needs as they occur that customer satisfaction is met at all times.

Essential Position Functions & Duties

60%  Reference Duties

  • Provides assistance with questions regarding library resources or services
  • Answers difficult and complex questions for students, faculty and staff regarding multiple library resources
  • Conducts comprehensive searches in online databases that may include systematic reviews
  • When needed, works one-on-one or in small groups with students, faculty, and staff

20%  Subject Portal Maintenance

  • Assists other faculty with the update of subject portals for student, resident, fellow, staff, and faculty benefit.
  • Assist other faculty in developing ways to improve subject portals.

10% Faculty Duties

  • Serves as a liaison to assigned departments or programs, consistent with established liaison program guidelines.
  • Assists other faculty with classes and small-group activities.
  • Participates in state, regional and national professional organizations in order to maintain knowledge of library information trends and advancements.
  • Develops grant proposals.
  • Looks for potential research ideas multiple faculty can take part in.
  • On an occasional basis, writes newsletter or journal articles.

Non-Essential Position Functions & Duties

10% Marginal Functions

  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Applicant must meet the following qualifications:

  • Masters degree (MLS, MLIS, MALS, etc.) from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited school of Library and/or Information Science.
  • Expert in Microsoft Office program.
  • Reference experience

Salary Range: $50,000 - $55,000  

Primary Location: Shreveport, LA – On-site position
