Provides basic and fundamental patient care in conformance with the nursing plan of care and policies and procedures. Assists with patient flow through the clinic. Ensures readiness of clinics for patient care including room prep, equipment checks, cleanliness and availability of supplies and working equipment. Communicates with patients, providers and other disciplines to ensure a positive patient experience.

Obtains vital signs, prepares examination rooms for patient visits and provides appropriate care to the population served which includes neonates, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Assists with procedures and advanced tasks for specific areas. Provides other duties as assigned.

Works 40 hours per week. Requires overtime as needed to complete clinic. Lunch and break times are dictated by workflow and times may vary.

This position serves as the primary Coordinator of our Vaccine Program and Kid Med Program. 

Regular attendance is required to perform the functions of this position.

Incumbent will maintain a customer-oriented awareness in acknowledging and responding to needs as they occur that customer satisfaction is met at all times.

Essential Position Functions & Duties

90% Patient/ Clinic Flow Management:

  • Welcomes patients in person or on the telephone; answers or refers inquiries.
  • Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; helping them to position themselves for the examination and/or treatment; arranging instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit or treatment; and documenting all findings in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Obtains and documents accurate vital signs (height, weight, BP, temperature, pulse, and respirations); reports any abnormal readings to nursing staff or provider
  • Supports patient care delivery by assisting health care providers during examinations; performing phlebotomy and collecting laboratory specimens; performing basic laboratory tests; disposing of contaminated supplies; preparing and administering topical, oral, subcutaneous, and intramuscular medications according to physician's order and hospital policy with proper documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Monitors Prescription and Nurse Call lines when assigned
  • Performs EKG tests
  • Reinforces patient education
  • Recognizes changes in patient’s physical and /or mental condition and reports to the nurse/provider
  • Completes records by recording patient examination, treatment, and test results as instructed by licenses medical professional
  • Restocks clinic supplies; assists with ordering of clinic supplies
  • Cleans refrigerators weekly and maintains log book as assigned
  • Provides other duties and services within scope of Medical Assistant profession
  • Completes education and competency requirements
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with all Hospital and Departmental Policy and Procedures
  • Maintains patient confidentiality
  • Serves and protects the physician or health care provider practice by adhering to professional standards, hospital and departmental policies and procedures, federal and state regulatory requirements, and The Joint Commission (TJC) standards
  • Demonstrates competence in clinic-specific duties as demonstrated/documented in clinic-specific competency checklist
  • Answers the telephone, route calls to appropriate department/person. Takes messages, disperses to appropriate physician, receives answers to previous messages and follows through on physician’s recommendations, (i.e., set up appointments for patients, inform patient of results of various laboratory, or diagnostic tests, or any other recommendations from the physician via telephone or by written correspondence).
  • Attends monthly staff meetings and in-services.
  • Support and utilization of the electronic medical record system is required.

10% Marginal Functions

  • Performs clerical duties as needed
  • Covers front desk check-in and check- out as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • A certificate of completion from an accredited medical assistant training program.

Salary Range: $30,160 - $37,440  

Primary Location: Shreveport, LA (on-site position)
