Postbaccalaureate • Undergraduate • High School
Postbaccalaureate Research Education Program in Biomedical Sciences (PREP)
The goal of the LSUHSC-NO PREP is to prepare individuals from backgrounds underrepresented
in the biomedical sciences, who have recently completed their baccalaureate science
degrees, for successful enrollment, retention, and completion of a PhD training program
during a one-year research education program. Stipend $27,200/year. Applications
Open on December 1 and Close on March 1. Program Start Date on June 1.

Medical Student Summer Research Program
The program works to cultivate students' interest in pursuing medical and research
careers in the basic/clinical sciences or public health. Students spend 8 weeks in
the program during the summer. Interns are matched with mentors in laboratories or
clinics at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center or Children's Hospital
of New Orleans.Students learn laboratory techniques used in medical research and attend
weekly seminars.
Flat stipend paid in 3 increments

The NIH/NINDS-LSUHSC-New Orleans, Undergraduate Diversity in Neuroscience Research
Experiences
The NIH Blueprint initiative "Enhancing Neuroscience Diversity through Undergraduate
Research Education Experiences (ENDURE)" aims to raise interest and provide opportunities
in neuroscience research for individuals who are typically underrepresented in the
field.
The program provides such individuals with training at the undergraduate level, thereby
preparing students to enter and successfully complete neuroscience Ph.D. programs.
ENDURE will provide this undergraduate training through partnerships between research-intensive
institutions and institutions with a substantial enrollment of neuroscience majors
from people with backgrounds from historically-excluded, underrepresented, underserved
backgrounds, including individuals with disabilities and individuals from economically
disadvantaged backgrounds. This program is year-long and includes two mentors, one
LSUHSC-NO Research Mentor and one academic mentor from the home institution.

Research Experiences for Undergraduates
The purpose of this program is to provide undergraduate students interested in a career
in biological sciences a 10 week research experience. Underrepresented minority students
in the basic sciences will be provided with one-on-one training by LSUHSC faculty
in designing and conducting experiments, as well as presenting their results.

SOM Tiger Scholars Virtual Undergraduate Summer Academic Enrichment Program
This program is a 5-week, non-residential, academic enrichment program at no-financial cost to the participant.
Academic didatic/lecture-structured mini-courses : Biochemistry, Anatomy, Physiology, Genetics, and an overview of Public Health.
Additionally, workshops/practical exposures that support an integration of leadership
development activities, clinical experiences, cultural competency, financial literacy,
and preparation for professional schools' entrance examinations, such as the MCAT, (and GRE, by request), will be provided.
Qualifications include:
- Current attendance at a Louisiana undergraduate institution or LA resident who attends
an out-of-state undergraduate institution
- GPA of 3.0
- Academic classification, junior or senior
- Has earned academic credits in organic chemistry and physics

Summer Undergraduate Neuroscience (SUN) Program
The SUN program offers Louisiana's undergraduate students hands-on experiences in
laboratory research and education in the neurosciences, with the goal of stimulating
an interest in medicine, neuroscience and research as a career.

Summer Science Program (SSP)
This is a 5-week program for high school students who come to LSUHSC from around the
state to experience an academically enriching environment and participate in educational
and motivational activities. Students are exposed to biomedical research, and have
hands-on experience in medicine, nursing, dentistry, allied health and other health
fields.
