Postbaccalaureate • Undergraduate • High School
Postbaccalaureate Research Education Program in Biomedical Sciences (PREP)
The goal of the LSUHSC-NO PREP is to develop a broad pool of well-trained postbaccalaureates, who have recently completed their baccalaureate science degrees, for successful enrollment, retention, and completion of a biomedical PhD training program during a one-year research education program. Stipend $27,200/year. Applications Open on December 1 and Close on March 1. Program Start Date on June 1.
Medical Student Summer Research Program
The program works to cultivate students' interest in pursuing medical and research careers in the basic/clinical sciences or public health. Students spend 8 weeks in the program during the summer. Interns are matched with mentors in laboratories or clinics at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center or Children's Hospital of New Orleans.Students learn laboratory techniques used in medical research and attend weekly seminars.
Flat stipend paid in 3 increments
NIH NINDS & NEI BP-ENDURE @ LSUHSC-NO, "Health Equity in Neuroscience" Program
ENDURE undergraduate training programs will support a range of activities to increase student interest and involvement in the neurosciences, including research experiences, core and advanced neuroscience courses, seminars, and journal clubs.
The purpose of this program is to provide undergraduate students interested in a career in biological sciences a 10 week research experience. Students are provided with one-on-one training by LSUHSC faculty in designing and conducting experiments, as well as presenting their results.
SOM Tiger Scholars Virtual Undergraduate Summer Academic Enrichment Program
This program is a 5-week, non-residential, academic enrichment program at no-financial cost to the participant.
Academic didatic/lecture-structured mini-courses : Biochemistry, Anatomy, Physiology, Genetics, and an overview of Public Health.
Additionally, workshops/practical exposures that support an integration of leadership development activities, clinical experiences, cultural competency, financial literacy, and preparation for professional schools' entrance examinations, such as the MCAT, (and GRE, by request), will be provided.
Qualifications include:
- Current attendance at a Louisiana undergraduate institution or LA resident who attends an out-of-state undergraduate institution
- GPA of 3.0
- Academic classification, junior or senior
- Has earned academic credits in organic chemistry and physics
Summer Undergraduate Neuroscience (SUN) Program
The SUN program offers Louisiana's undergraduate students hands-on experiences in laboratory research and education in the neurosciences, with the goal of stimulating an interest in medicine, neuroscience and research as a career.
High School

Summer Science Program (SSP)
This is a 5-week program for high school students who come to LSUHSC from around the state to experience an academically enriching environment and participate in educational and motivational activities. Students are exposed to biomedical research, and have hands-on experience in medicine, nursing, dentistry, allied health and other health fields.
