CLOSURE & EXPIRATION OF AN APPROVED

PROTOCOL

Closure

You may terminate an IBC protocol at any time. If previously approved research has been completed, please submit a Close Request application associated with the approved protocol in the Kuali Research electronic submission platform.

Expiration

Protocols are approved by the IBC for a maximum of five years and automatically expire at the end of that period. A new protocol must be reviewed and approved by the IBC in order to continue the research.

Kuali automatically sends email notifications to all study team members at 90, 60, 45, 30, and 15 days prior to the expiration of the study. If you wish to continue the research without any lapse in approval, please submit a new protocol application at least 45 to 60 days prior to the expiration date.

Submission

Detailed instructions for submitting initial and post-approval applications, including the NewProtocol application and the Close Request form, to the IBC are available in the Kuali Quickguide, Creating and Submitting IBC Protocols in Kuali, that may be downloaded from the Resources page.

The Kuali platform may be accessed by clicking one of the icons below.
